Introduction:
Introduced in the mid-1960s, Seikomatic was a sub-brand featuring automatic movements. By hiding the watch crown at a lower right position, Seiko tried to make a point that winding manually was no longer necessary. Moreover, both date and day displays were added to the dial for routine uses. This model here has an interesting dial in which the day is displayed at the bottom, instead of being next to the date (which is more commonly seen in watches nowadays). Therefore, it is described as the “Smiling Face” by the Seiko collectors.
